About the Program
The George B.
Hartzog, Jr. Educational Loan Program, named in honor of the former National Park
Service Director and long-time E&AA member, was established in 1974 to offer
interest-free loans to National Park Service members for the educational needs
of their dependent children or grandchildren. The limits for the Educational
Loan Program are $2,500 per year per child, a total of $10,000 maximum per
child, and $20,000 cumulative maximum per family.
In addition, NPS members are also eligible to take loans of up to $1,000 for their personal
education which are due in full six-months after payment.
Application Deadline
Applications and transcripts for dependent children/grandchildren must be
received by March 1st of each year. Loans for dependent children/grandchildren
are normally paid back on a monthly payment plan, starting the 13th month after
graduation, and continuing for no more than 60 months (5 years). Early payment
on dependent education loans is encouraged as this provides resources for other
fellow members to use for their higher education needs.
